We’re excited to announce that our fabulous founder Sara Blakely was named to Time Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
The full list and related tributes appear in the April 30 issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Thursday, April 19, and now at time.com/time100.
Armed with scissors and sheer genius, Sara cut the feet off her control top pantyhose at age 29, and the Spanx revolution began. Taking on the male-dominated hosiery industry brought its share of challenges, but she never gave up on her idea as noted by Katie Couric in her Time 100 tribute to Sara, “As we were trying to hide our guts, she trusted hers.”
“It’s an honor to be named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world!” says Sara. “Pinch me…To be on the 100 list alongside people I have looked up to and who are changing the world. My goal has always been to help women, and I think God had a sense of humor that I would start by making their butts look better! I hope to inspire others to trust their guts, follow their hearts and turn their dreams into a reality.”
The TIME 100 list, now in its ninth year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals. As TIME Managing Editor Richard Stengel has said of the list in the past, “The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world, it’s not a list of the smartest people in the world, it’s a list of the most influential people in the world. They’re scientists, they’re thinkers, they’re philosophers, they’re leaders, they’re icons, they’re artists, they’re visionaries. People who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people.”
This honor helps Sara on her mission to make the world a better place…one butt at a Time.
