SPANX Q&A with Jeffrey Kalinsky

Recently we spoke with one of our favorite fashion gurus, Jeffrey Kalinsky, owner of his namesake multi-designer boutiques and founder of Jeffrey Fashion Cares. We talked fall fashion and his love for Spanx as he gears up for the 22nd annual benefit and fashion show in Atlanta next week.  It’s August 25th (you should be there!) and supports Atlanta AIDS Fund and Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Greater Atlanta Affiliate—a perfect pair indeed.

Spanx: What’s the must-have item for fall?

JK: Leggings are a must-have for fall.  They are the perfect base for all of the great coats, motorcycle jackets, tunic tops, and chunky sweaters that are so important for this season.

Spanx: What inspired this season’s JFC theme: Prevention in Pairs?

JK: It is our 22nd show which benefits two wonderful charities.  We want everyone to grab a friend and join us as we support Atlanta AIDS Fund and Komen Atlanta.  Help us continue to grow, and grab a friend!

Spanx: What are your tips for getting dressed in jeans and how do you recommend women style their favorite pair?

JK: The best way to wear a jean is to make sure that they’re really narrow on the leg and slightly cropped.  Throw on a pair of pumps and you’ll look long and lean every time.

Spanx: Former JFC Honorary Chair and Spanx founder Sara Blakely likes to say that SPANX is the canvas and clothes are the art. Can you leave us with a piece of SPANX wisdom?

JK: Fashion makes fantasy and SPANX makes magic.

In Case You Missed It: Good Morning Spanx-ters!

Do you start your mornings with Robin, Lara and George?  Recently, Sara did!  That’s right, our founder met Good Morning America correspondent, Sara Haines, at the Garden State Spanx store to give America the skinny on our new jeans.

Check it out!

Go behind-the-seams with photos from the interview!

Lights, camera, Spanx!  Sara explains why Spanx bras will have you singing “Bra-llelujah®!”

Sara wasn’t the only one showing off a great rear view. The GMA interns tried on the Slim-X® jeans and gave a standing ovation.

Behind-The-Seams: We Put The Skinny In The Jeans!

At Spanx we always say, “Don’t worry, we’ve got your butt covered,” and now we’re doing it in the most jean-ious way!

Spanx put the skinny in the jeans with two new styles of premium denim, The Signature and The Slim-X®. With features like hidden shaping systems, innovative patterns and cuts, strategically-placed pockets and Triple Thread Technology™,  these jeans will make you look and feel great!

The Signature has a flat waistband across the top of the jean, so the whole style makes you look slimmer with a flattened tummy. We designed a side zipper to reduce bulk in the front for 360 degrees of smoothness.

The Slim-X has the slim built-in! We actually sewed the magic of Spanx directly inside the front of these classic five-pocket jeans—no one but you knows all that’s going on inside!

For more jean-ious features and benefits, watch as Spanx Founder, Sara Blakely,  takes you behind-the-seams of our new jeans collection photo shoot.

We Bra-lieved!

Here at Spanx, we always find something to support!

With the 2014 World Cup games at hand, “futball” frenzy swept over the Spanx HQ, where employees gathered to cheer on the US team throughout the tournament.  While there’s still one game left, we’ve slimmed down the bulk of gifshashtags, and memes to present to you, our top 3 favorite moments from the 2014 World Cup.

When Goalie Tim Howard saved a record-breaking 16 attempted goals and sparked a viral sensation!

Southern Comfort

Spanx HQ is located in Atlanta–a city nicknamed Hot-lanta for it’s steamy weather. But this week, the ATL has been chilled by a serious cold snap. With temps in the single digits (and wind chills below zero!), the Spanx-ters are cooking up some of our favorite winter foods.

The Arctic blast is hitting everyone hard, so we thought we’d share some of our recipes to help you fend off the frigid temps. From steamy soups to decadent desserts, it’s the perfect time of year to indulge in some culinary comfort.

Check out this recipe for Spanx-y Red Velvet Hot Chocolate (care of Guru of the Outdoors), and visit the “Spanx-ters Love…” board on Pinterest for even more belly-warming delights!

  1. 4 cups whole milk
  2. 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  3. 10 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate, coarsely chopped
  4. 2 teaspoons McCormick® Red Food Color
  5. 1 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
Vanilla Whipped Cream
  1. 1/2 cup heavy cream
  2. 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  3. 1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
  1. For the Hot Chocolate, place milk and granulated sugar in medium saucepan. Bring to simmer on medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  2. Remove from heat. Stir in chocolate with wire whisk until melted. Stir in food color and vanilla. Pour into serving cups. Serve with marshmallows and Vanilla Whipped Cream, if desired.
  3. For the Vanilla Whipped Cream, beat heavy cream, confectioners’ sugar and vanilla in medium bowl with electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
