We’re Making a Splash in Tampa!

Spanx Store Opening in International Plaza Tampa Florida

Greetings from the Sunshine State! Our fearless founder Sara Blakely has been busy shaping the world, and now she’s coming home… and bringing Spanx with her! Florida’s first Spanx store is opening in April at International Plaza, and we’re celebrating with an all-out Jiggle-Free Jubilee in true Spanx fashion!

Sara is especially excited for this opening because Tampa is her hometown, and she grew up shopping at the plaza! “Now, I can share Spanx in person with my hometown and the community that has supported me from the beginning,” says Sara.

Sara Blakely Opening Store in Tampa Florida

We’re kicking off the store opening festivities with a Spanx-ified “hosiery” cutting by Sara at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11, and we’ll have plenty of goodies to go around! The first 100 shoppers to arrive at the store can choose a complimentary product from the “Tower of Power,” with everything from supportive shapers to perfect pantyhose. Plus, $100 “Shaping Spree” cards will be raffled off throughout the day.

The store will feature all of our most popular styles, plus a variety of “the bust” apparel, active, swim and men’s wear. Whether you need to stay smooth underneath a form-fitting dress (we’ve got you!), eliminate VPL (#cannot) or want the latest in denim (and who doesn’t?!), our Transformation Team will be at your side to help with flattering solutions for any fashion dilemma. Thanks to Sara, Tampa just got even more glam!

If you’re in the Tampa area on April 11, bustle in and say hello. We’re excited to show off and can’t wait to see you there! XO

Great Jeans

This fall, looking good is in the jeans. From skinny legged-patterns that plead for attention, to rich jewel tones, to coated denim that looks liquefied on legs, fall jeans are all about showing off a tight end.

But don’t worry: Whether your booty has a little extra jiggle in its wiggle, or your trunk is lacking ample junk, SPANX has your butt covered! Finding the perfect panty for your perfect pair—and derriere—couldn’t be simpler.

Patterned and Perky

Whether they’re striped, floral, skinned or brocade, patterns draw attention to your bottom half. And to make sure it’s your better half there’s the SPANX Slimplicity® Panty. This shaping panty promises that all eyes will be on your backside for all the right reasons. A back seam eliminates uni-butt, while powerful compression controls your tummy. Plus, the super-slimming level panties provide flat seams that eliminate pinching, binding and bulging under your designer denim, so no matter what pattern you pick, you can be proud of your fine print.

Bejeweled Booty

Jewel tones provide a pop of color, but require a booty pop to truly shine. (Just ask Khloe Kardashian who rocks the trend on a regular basis.) But don’t let your ego be deflated just because you have a flat fanny! For women who weren’t blessed with a Kardashian-sized booty The Slimplicity® Booty-Booster Short adds a “cheek” size with removable butt-lets. This shaper stays hidden under slim-cut jeans thanks to laser cut edges and flat seams, so no one will know your crowning jewel isn’t your own.

Chart-Topping Tush

The coated denim trend has a lot in common with its muse, the seasoned rock star: They can be extremely intimidating and extremely skinny. And with such a snug fit, these jeans can make for a mean muffin top.

Eliminate those handles you don’t love and rock this trend with no regrets by pairing leather-like skinnies with an Undie-tectable® Adjustable Strap Bodysuit. Not only does this medium-slimming suit provide back pockets to shape the booty, the one-hit onesie also offers targeted slimming zones for the tummy, because muffin tops are SO not rock and roll.

Sara Blakely Shapes Time Magazine’s Most Influential List

Sara in her SPANX!

We’re excited to announce that our fabulous founder Sara Blakely was named to Time Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

The full list and related tributes appear in the April 30 issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Thursday, April 19, and now at time.com/time100.

Armed with scissors and sheer genius, Sara cut the feet off her control top pantyhose at age 29, and the Spanx revolution began. Taking on the male-dominated hosiery industry brought its share of challenges, but she never gave up on her idea as noted by Katie Couric in her Time 100 tribute to Sara, “As we were trying to hide our guts, she trusted hers.”

“It’s an honor to be named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world!” says Sara. “Pinch me…To be on the 100  list alongside people I have looked up to and who are changing the world. My goal has always been to help women, and I think God had a sense of humor that I would start by making their butts look better! I hope to inspire others to trust their guts, follow their hearts and turn their dreams into a reality.”

The TIME 100 list, now in its ninth year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals. As TIME Managing Editor Richard Stengel has said of the list in the past, “The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world, it’s not a list of the smartest people in the world, it’s a list of the most influential people in the world. They’re scientists, they’re thinkers, they’re philosophers, they’re leaders, they’re icons, they’re artists, they’re visionaries.  People who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people.”

This honor helps Sara on her mission to make the world a better place…one butt at a Time.

Sara Strikes a Pose (There’s Nothing to It)

Sara's in Vogue

Our fashionable founder hit the streets (and the stores) of NYC to show off her shopping skills for the April issue of Vogue. Accompanied by renowned writer Lynn Yaeger, Sara shopped Barney’s NY and Jeffrey to showcase her signature style to readers.

Between picking up pieces with pops of color for media appearances and selecting more subdued silhouettes for her daily life, Sara offered up her philosophy on shapewear and fashion: “Shapewear is the canvas and the clothes are the art.”

We couldn’t have painted a better picture ourselves!

And for a little behind the scenes fun, we asked Sara to reveal 5 secrets from her Vogue shoot. Here’s what she shared:

  1. Vogue requires everyone to have hair and makeup done by their chosen stylists – no exceptions. Everyone from Michelle Obama to Angelina Jolie. I’ve always been a frustrated beautician at heart—I  was the one who did everyone’s hair for prom, so relinquishing hair and makeup was tough for me, but I was happy with the results! (Anna Wintour obviously knows what she’s doing!)
  2. The dress I wore was a Proenza Schouler. I met the two (adorable) designers at the Jeffrey Fashion Cares charity event in Atlanta in 2010. We talked Man SPANX, and they loved the idea! We talked a lot backstage before the event, and I learned that their line is named after their maternal grandmothers’ maiden names, which was a bonding moment for us because I’m so close with my own grandmother (Nannie)! I was excited that the stylist pulled pieces from their new Spring collection.
  3. The shoot was on the cobblestoned Mercer St. between Grand and Canal in NY’s Soho neighborhood around 3PM.
  4. We shot in early February, and it was FREEZING! The Vogue fashion assistant Gwen (a fellow FSU grad) was so sweet and kept covering me with a really warm robe in between shots.
  5. The shoes I wore in the shot were gorgeous Marc Jacobs Mary Janes, but two sizes too big, so we stuffed tissues in the toes to keep my feet from falling out. The heels kept getting caught in the cobblestones, and I can’t believe I didn’t fall! Leave it to Vogue to catch a “moment” of a graceful stride!

Real Women Swim Makeovers

To mark the launch of our 2012 swimsuit collection, brave SPANX fans suited up and put their own butts on the line to take part in the SPANX Real Women Swim Makeovers.  Spanx stylists selected bathing suits from the new collection to flatter each woman’s figure and camouflage any imperfections from bust to butt.

BEFORE: Julie's suit was droopy and drab

AFTER: Julie's SPANX tankini is flirty and fab!

Julie, a young mom looking for lower half coverage and all-over style got along swimmingly with the Long and Lean Ruffle Tankini, $128 and Skirtini, $98 stating, “The tummy control is amazing. Before having a child, I probably would not have even looked at a suit with a skirt, but this was perfect. It’s not too short or too long.” Try paring these separates if you want to disguise, tummy, hips and thighs.

Carol, a fashionista seeking a sophisticated style and an hourglass silhouette went slimming with the Lovely Lace One-Piece in Watercolor, $198 and declaring, “It gives me confidence, it supports me where I need support, and I love the feminine details.”

Tammie, a fashion blogger who wanted to show off her curves with the right support dove into the Halter Swim Dress in Twilight, $188 professing, “It makes me feel sexy, it pulls me in, and it cinches my waist. I just feel absolutely wonderful.” Try this suit if you need bust coverage and support for your girls.

Brittany, a working mom in need of a tummy-taming style that works as hard she does took the Whittle Waistline Draped One-Piece in Twilight, $188 for a test dive saying, “The SPANX swimsuit fits me in all of the right places. The ruching is my best friend; I didn’t think I could look this good so soon after having a baby.”
